The popular Grillhouse restaurant in The Firs shopping centre in Rosebank, Johannesburg has opened Meat.etc, a new boutique butchery, deli, outside catering and retail outlet. This expands its top quality meat services to its loyal clientele.

The outlet stocks products ranging from The Grillhouse’s famous aged cut steaks, roasts and biltong to its signature bastings, sauces and oils. It also sells branded paraphernalia, souvenirs, crockery and braai equipment.

The in-house caterer and butcher is on site to discuss private functions, offer expert advice and new recipe ideas. Customers can pop in for a cappuccino and designer sandwiches while customising their recipe books.

A web site is currently under construction to offer an on-line butchery service, order facilities and delivery service.

The Grillhouse restaurant and Katzy’s cigar and piano bar have become hospitality institutions in The Firs in Rosebank. The Grillhouse was started by business partners Joel Katz, Saul Mervis and Peter Williams – of Late Nite Al’s fame – in 1994 and Katzy’s in 1999, both adjacent to the Hyatt hotel.

They quickly became the places to be seen, serving great steaks and top liquor brands in a sophisticated environment that regularly offers live music.

Both establishments have undergone various refurbishments and expansions to offer new experiences to their patrons. The most recent took place last year as The Firs shopping centre was totally revamped.

The Grillhouse opened a second restaurant in 2008 in the Atholl Square shopping centre in Sandton, Johannesburg.
