The Melrose Arch precinct in Johannesburg will feature the new 197-room Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Melrose Arch in April. Following on the success of the first Fire & Ice concept in Cape Town, this contemporary hotel is aimed at the traveller who enjoys being amidst the energetic, urban vibe of city life.

The hotel's clientele is the "forever young" set, looking for affordability, value for money and unique style.

Danny Bryer, marketing and revenue director for Protea Hotels, explains: "Many people are under the impression that the hotel will be a clone of Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! in Cape Town - they are in for a great surprise. The chic dcor concept is strictly under wraps."

Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Melrose Arch is a 197-roomed hotel that will appeal to both the domestic and international business and leisure traveller. Its location is central to the numerous bars and restaurants in the precinct, but also close to many businesses in the area.

Conference facilities create an energetic out-of-office experience designed to heighten the creative senses required in a boardroom meeting. One of the hotels' unique food and beverage offerings is the "Deli on High Street", a sidewalk deli on the corner of High Street and Whitely Street, which adds to the coffee culture that is popular in northern Johannesburg.

Protea Hotels and AMDEC, the property developers of the Melrose Arch precinct, have a close working relationship which started with the five-star Melrose Arch Hotel which opened in 2002 as part of Protea Hotels' African Pride Hotels portfolio. Both hotels form an essential and valuable part of Protea Hotels' and African Pride Hotels' strategic positioning in this sought-after location.
