Some of Cape Town's leading restaurateurs have joined hands to found Gourmet Brands, a restaurant business that has been created from a merger between Caveau, HQ Restaurant & Bar and the Gourmet Burger brands.

The new holding company owns five operational restaurants, all in the Cape Town metropolitan area.

Gourmet Brands operations include two Caveau restaurants, the wine bar concept first introduced to Cape Town in Heritage Square over five years ago; HQ Restaurant & Bar, the steak-only restaurant and popular city nightspot; and two Gourmet Burger outlets.

The merger will combine the three brands in one consolidated entity to achieve critical mass in brand recognition, marketing and cost rationalization.

The Caveau team of Jean Muller and Brndan Crew are seasoned restaurant operators and their fine-dining and operational experience will enhance the service and overall quality of the Gourmet Brand offerings.

Logan Govender, the proprietor of Gourmet Burger, comes from an investment banking background, and will bring capital-raising and corporate finance experience to the group as it expands the current restaurant footprint and acquires further brands.

The merger also creates a holding company with diversified restaurant offerings for a wider audience and with greater potential for development. Gourmet Brand partners Crew, Govender, Marc Langlois, Peta MacMaster and Muller, are already looking at national expansion opportunities for the individual restaurant brands.

Gourmet Brands is based in Heritage Square, Cape Town.
